11 November 2025 will be remembered as a landmark day at St Giles Medical Rehabilitation Centre, as we welcomed Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi-Chiwenga, an influential national figure and passionate advocate for community health and human welfare.
Her visit was more than a tour — it was a moment of affirmation, inspiration, and renewed commitment to supporting rehabilitation services in Zimbabwe.
A Warm Welcome to St Giles
Upon her arrival, Colonel Baloyi-Chiwenga was received by members of the Board, senior management, and staff. The atmosphere was vibrant and full of anticipation, with patients, caregivers, and therapists excited to meet someone whose voice carries enormous influence in national health advocacy.
Her genuine warmth and humility immediately set the tone for the day’s activities.
Touring the Facilities
Colonel Baloyi-Chiwenga took time to tour several key departments at St Giles, gaining firsthand insight into our operations and the critical services we provide:
🟦 Physiotherapy Unit
She observed how our therapists work daily to help patients regain movement and independence after injuries, strokes, surgeries, and chronic illnesses.
🟦 Occupational Therapy Department
Colonel Baloyi saw how children and adults relearn essential skills needed for everyday living — from dressing and feeding to writing and mobility.
🟦 Hydrotherapy Pool
She was introduced to the benefits of aquatic rehabilitation, especially for patients with mobility limitations and chronic pain.
🟦 Special School & Paediatric Services
One of the most emotional moments came as she interacted with children receiving therapy and education. She expressed deep admiration for their resilience and the dedication of the staff.
🟦 Mobility Aid Workshop
Here, Colonel Baloyi explored the process behind customizing wheelchairs and other mobility devices — a service that empowers many people with disabilities to regain control of their lives.
Her Message: “St Giles Must Survive — And It Must Go On”
After the tour, Colonel Baloyi-Chiwenga shared heartfelt sentiments about what she witnessed. She emphasized that rehabilitation is not a luxury, but a critical pillar of healthcare, and that every Zimbabwean has a responsibility to support institutions like St Giles.
Her now-viral message read:
“…We may be healthy today, but who knows what the future holds… we may be patients there tomorrow. Therefore it is our duty to assist them whilst we can, so that when we are unable to, the facility will be there to help us in return. St Giles must survive and it must go on.”
Her words resonated deeply with our mission — a reminder that the work we do today protects futures, families, and lives.
A Visit That Strengthened Our Mission
Colonel Baloyi-Chiwenga’s willingness to honor her promise to visit St Giles reflects her commitment to humanitarian work and community upliftment. Her engagement with patients, staff, and caregivers showcased compassion, leadership, and a sincere desire to improve health and rehabilitation services in Zimbabwe.
Her advocacy ignited renewed hope and energy within the St Giles community.
